DYSPLA FESTIVAL: CELEBRATING DYSLEXIC STORYMAKERS. STARTS 8 NOVEMBER

DYS(the)LEXI PRESENTS
DYSPLA FESTIVAL DYSLEXIC STORYMAKERS

Tristan Bates Theatre: 6th November – 10th November 2012
www.dysthelexi.com

Dyslexics have been writing for the festival since 2007 and in that time DYS(the)LEXI has hosted many a premiere for dyslexic writers who had previously never left the closet.  Five years on and dyslexic writers are growing in numbers; welcome the writers, the poets, the playwrights, welcome the artists, the filmmakers, the theatre practitioners, welcome the dyslexic storymakers, all making it for themselves.

This year, DYS(the)LEXI will produce two new plays written by dyslexic playwrights, James Ernest (The 8th Wave) directed by Don Mc Camphill and Juliet Cochrane (Alexis & Euan) directed by Andrew Lukas. Both plays will have their premiere at the DYSPLA Festival.

DYS(the)LEXI will also fill the Tristan Bates Theatre and bar with handmade dyslexic thoughts in the form of letters, poems, drawings and spontaneous performances. This element of the festival is free and especially programmed to incorporate as many dyslexic creatives as possible.  Dyslexic scribbles will be found lurking in unexpected places. The audience may find a letter under their chair or served with their drink. The concept is to share the mystical language of dyslexia with the general public; it is designed to show off our handwriting, our spelling and our inner worlds.

DYSPLA is the first festival of its kind to celebrate, not cure, dyslexic writing and while we are not currently funded, money has never stopped us doing what we do best – putting dyslexic storymakers on the literary map and in London theatres.
