PAINT THE QUEEN : DANCE TO THE BEAT

The Queen of Hoxton is delighted to be hosting the “Paint The Queen” exhibition. A diverse group of 10 artists was selected by the curator Liat Chen to interpret the phrase ‘Dance To The Beat’.

Artists have applied a range of mixed media to the walls, including screen print, music video, acrylic paint, video animation and paper collage. KAOS Kollective  have also created paintings ‘live’ throughout the launch evening resulting a unique and exciting transformation of the space. Do not miss out!

JOSEPH VASS

JOSEPH VASS is an illustrator and printmaker who creates work based on his own experiences and endeavours. Often a hazy mix of truth and fiction, Vass’ work takes a narrative form through tropical use of colour, character and typography. This year Vass won a commission to be one of 12 designers to create the official Wimbledon 2012 poster which was also sold as the iconic souvenir of the event. His influences include Gonzo Journalism, Tim Mara, John Cooper Clarke and Kew Gardens.

 

GARY DAVID ROBERTS

GARY DAVID ROBERTS is a film director and illustrator based in London. Interested in surreal, dark, folk art imagery his work has been applied to illustration, design, music promos and film and often has a hand-drawn aesthetic. He has worked with many clients including Coca Cola, Dazed & Confused and Timberland.

BEUGISM

BEUGISM is a London based illustrator who was born and raised in East Berlin and has previously lived in Bilbao and Warsaw. He studied Communication Design at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig, Germany before doing an MA in Illustration at Central Saint Martins. In 2010 he was voted one of the 5 best illustration graduates in the UK by Computer Arts magazine and has had work published by Nobrow. Beugism is inspired by communist murals, Japanese woodcuts and surrealist paintings.

JAMES ANDREWS

JAMES ANDREWS is a designer and illustrator living in London. His work spans across many different mediums (mostly digital) but it all starts with an initial idea and a drawing. He takes inspiration from anything clever or something which might provoke the audience. Andrews has his own clothing label, Guts & Glory and has had a piece of work displayed on a bill board at Bethnal Green tube station.

JULIANA WANG

JULIANA WANG is a London based illustrator who recently completed her postgraduate studies at The Prince’s Drawing School. Wang’s work has just been selected for publication and exhibition by AOI Images 36: Best of British Illustration. Drawing inspiration from Matisse’s cut outs and Kathe Kollwitz’s narrative pieces, she employs a graphic bold language and uses a collage process that involves painting and drawing before assembling layers and colours in Photoshop.

PETER DONALDSON

PETER DONALDSON studied at the Royal College of Art and the University of Hull. In 2002 he set up Wripple Press as an independent imprint to publish artist’s books and multiples. Donaldson works with a range of media, principally drawing, video, animation and photography. He carefully selects an eclectic range of images that he arranges into complex and inventive collages and montages.

FRANCK TREBILLAC

FRANCK TREBILLAC is a London-based director and designer.Trebillac has created and designed online videos and print materials for some of the biggest brands names including Samsung, Land Rover and Monsoon. In early 2010 he started the collective, Burning Head and has since grown a reputation for creating avant-garde and visually striking music videos. He also designs quirky limited edition art prints.

KAOS KOLLECTIVE

KAOS KOLLECTIVE are a select group of graduates from the recently defunct Central Saint Martins MA Illustration course. A year after their final show, they have joined forces to continue their creative conduct and bring out the best in every chaos. KAOS members are specialised in commercial and conceptual illustration, animation, all round mixed-media projects, murals, hands-on workshops and events.
