BAFTA EVENT – FILMMAKERS AND BRAND-FUNDED CONTENT

Venue: BAFTA, 195 Piccadilly, London W1J 9LN
9th March @ 6.15pm

Filmmakers have long moved between the distinct worlds of commercial advertising and filmmaking, with advertising often seen as a way of funding film projects or subsidising the filmmaker’s less commercial work. But in the last decade the lines between those worlds have blurred. Advertisers have looked to harness filmmakers’ storytelling skills in new and varied ways – ranging from microbudget budget online commercials to long form ads in which the brand is only peripherally featured, to investing in feature films. In this event, the speakers will explore how and why brands and filmmakers are collaborating more closely, and look at the commercial, creative and ethical questions, as well as opportunities that arise.

Speakers include: BAFTA nominated filmmakers Amanda Boyle (Cast Offs, Skins and Care), Tom Harper (Scouting Book for Boys, The Borrowers), Graham Hodge (Head of Branded Content at LBI whose clients include Sony, Virgin Atlantic and Peroni ) and Eilidh Macaskill (Editor of InStyle UK, who launched Film InStyle, pairing luxury brands and filmmakers for a series of short films).
