2012 BAFTA Nominated Shorts On Tour

Following on from the Orange British Academy Film Awards on 12 February 2012, the nominated short films and short animations will be touring the country.

The nominees for Best Short Film (Animated) were:

BAFTA Short Animation Nominee 2012 - 'Abuelas' ABUELAS
Director/Co-Writer: Afarin Eghbal, Producer: Kasia Malipan (9 mins)

In Buenos Aires, an old woman looks forward to becoming a grandmother. However, historic events force her to wait over 30 years.

BAFTA Short Animation Nominee 2012 - 'Bobby Yeah' BOBBY YEAH
Director/Writer/Producer: Robert Morgan(23 mins)

Bobby Yeah is a petty thug who lightens his miserable existence by brawling and stealing stuff. One day, he steals the favourite pet of some very dangerous individuals, and finds himself in deep trouble. He really should learn, but he just can’t help it.

BAFTA Short Animation Nominee 2012 - 'A Morning Stroll' A MORNING STROLL Winner
Director/Writer: Grant Orchard, Producer: Sue Goffe (7 mins)

When a New Yorker walks past a chicken on his morning stroll, we’re left to wonder which one is the real city slicker.

When two gymnasts are selected for the National training camp they learn something new about bodies, boys and friendship.

BAFTA Short Film Nominee 2012 – ‘Mwansa The Great' MWANSA THE GREAT
Rungano Nyoni, Gabriel Gauchet (23 mins)

An eight-year-old boy who aspires to be a hero embarks upon a journey to prove his greatness,with unexpected consequences.

BAFTA Short Film Nominee 2012 – ‘Only Sound Remains' ONLY SOUND REMAINS
Writer/Director: Arash Ashtiani, Producer: Anshu Poddar (15 mins)

A personal drama set in the wake of the violent post-election protests in Iran.

BAFTA Short Film Nominee 2012 – ‘Pitch Black Heist' PITCH BLACK HEIST Winner
Writer/Director: John Maclean, Producer: Gerardine O’Flynn (12mins)

Follows two professional safe crackers who meet on a simple job to relieve an office safe from its contents. The catch is a light activated alarm system impelling the men to embark on a pitch black heist.

Director/Writer/Producer: Babak Anvari, Co-Writer:Gavin Cullen, Co-Producer: Kit Fraser
(8 mins)

In a school governed by a strict regime, the pupils are informed that what they had always been taught as fact is no longer true. But when the incredulous students speak out, they are forced to question how far they will go to stand up for their beliefs.
